Together, the circular shape and the evergreen material make the wreath a representation of eternal life. It is also a representation of faith, as Christians in Europe often placed 4 candles on the wreath during 4 Advent to symbolize the light that Jesus brought into the world. Four red candles were placed on the advent wreath signaled the four advents before Christmas. Each Sunday a new candle was lit. Being born and raised in Germany I grew up with this tradition.
