 Janis Joplin was a female vocalist and an icon of the 1960s counter culture, the Hippy Era. When the 60s ended Janis was not far behind, she died of a heroin overdose in 1970. In 1995 she was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone ranked her number 46 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"
